Claire Ingleby

Claire joined MB Law as a qualified solicitor in 1990. She heads the Commercial department.

Since joining the firm, Claire has specialised exclusively in providing advice and assistance to the travel and leisure industries. Over this time, she has been involved in a very wide range of issues. Claire has a comprehensive understanding of not only all aspects of the regulatory and legal environment in which businesses operate but also the competitive pressures they face.

Her breadth of experience and commercial focus is recognised and appreciated by her clients who range from large tour operators, cruise lines, hotels, airlines and newspapers to specialist operators and start up businesses. She has consistently been rated as a leader in the field of travel law by Chambers, A Client’s Guide to the Legal Profession.

Advising on the regulatory aspects of carrying on business in the travel and leisure sectors forms a core part of Claire’s work. The intricacies of the Package Travel Regulations, CAA requirements including ATOLs and AOCs and the Consumer Protection Act in respect of pricing issues are very familiar territory as are the various trade body membership rules. The depth of Claire’s knowledge and experience also enables her to advise individual businesses as to the most appropriate compliance route for them.

Handling commercial transactions and company issues of all descriptions occupy a large part of Claire’s time. This work ranges from business sales and purchases to shareholder and investment agreements and debentures and loan notes. Claire also brings her wide industry experience to bear on a variety of commercial agreements. Complex drafting is a challenge she particularly relishes.

Claire also handles Trading Standards enquiries and prosecutions. Her practical advice, attention to detail, drafting of responses and representation has achieved successful outcomes in a wide range of situations, including alleged breaches of the Package Travel Regulations, Trade Descriptions Act and Consumer Protection Act.

Claire is a regular speaker at industry events including those hosted by the Association of British Tour Operators to France, the Association of Independent Tour Operators, the Passenger Shipping Association and the Association of Reader Travel.
