Gary Tweddle, Director
Gary joined mb LAW in 2002. Prior to that he worked in the travel industry as legal services manager for the Specialist Holiday Group, now known as Travelopia, having worked in various parts of the industry before then. His extensive experience and knowledge of the travel industry built up over a number of years means he is ideally placed to understand and respond to clients’ needs quickly and effectively.
Gary undertakes a mixture of defendant personal injury litigation and commercial litigation for the travel industry. He has a particular strength in overseas recoveries and is routinely involved in commercial claims on behalf of tour operators against overseas suppliers in multiple jurisdictions. He has build up a significant practice in respect of Caribbean based clients and cases with a particular emphasis on recoveries from this region.
Cases of particular note include X v Kuoni Travel Limited (where Kuoni was found not liable to the claimant for a rape committed by an employee of a Sri Lankan Hotel) and Thomas v Virgin Holidays & MRI/ Rex Resorts (a successful defence of a salmonella illness claim on causation). His strength in medical causation has enabled him assist tour operators defend high value complex injury claims. He has also built up particular expertise on the complex issue of agency and principal relationships in travel claims, having successfully defended a number of businesses on this particular point.
